The Surprising Pros and Cons of Aphantasia: How it Enhances Abstract Thinking and Hinders Memory Recall

It’s interesting to know that aphantasia can have both advantages and disadvantages. For me, the biggest drawback is the inability to recall specific memories without some sort of prompt. It’s like trying to remember a song without hearing the melody – nearly impossible.

But on the other hand, I have found that my abstract thinking abilities are quite strong. I can think through complex problems in my mind without getting bogged down by distracting visuals.

Still, like the author of the previous article, I also seek a cure for my aphantasia. I long to be able to visualize events and people from my past, to see with my mind’s eye the faces of loved ones who have passed away. It’s a deep desire that I can’t seem to let go of.

So I will continue to explore different methods and techniques for improving my visualization abilities. Perhaps one day I’ll be able to visualize without any difficulty.

Until then, I’ll keep searching and experimenting. Who knows what new discoveries I may make on this journey!
