Have you ever imagined yourself being able to imagine? For those with aphantasia, it’s a dream that never comes true. The inability to visualize anything in your mind can leave you feeling left out when it comes to memory recall and imaginative thinking.
Nonetheless, being one of the estimated 2-5% of the population with aphantasia is not all bad news. Research has shown our brains are wired for an unique type of thinking that can lead to creativity in areas others may struggle with. Instead of picturing our ideas, they are abstract and conceptualized in an original way.
However, aphantasia can also cause feelings of loss, as the idea of never having mental images of loved ones or certain settings can cause distressing feelings. That’s where cures come in, which include practicing psychic abilities, mindfulness, and visualizing exercises.
We don’t need to give up just yet to be able to envision things in our minds. Keep trying different strategies until you find what works for you, and who knows what other wonders you’ll unlock in the process.
